Patrons are welcome to visit the Library to browse the collection, pick up holds from other library locations, use the public computers/printer, and access quiet study areas. Exam proctoring services are also available.
Public seating and the number of public computer stations is limited, and patrons are encouraged to limit their stay to 60 minutes. Members from the same household are welcome to visit the Library together, but children must remain with their parents/caregivers at all times.
Please refrain from visiting the Library if you might be experiencing any core symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, runny nose, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, etc. If you are experiencing symptoms, have traveled outside of the country in the last 14 days, or have been in close contact with someone who has a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days, you must remain at home and are legally required to isolate.
As per the Town of Banff's Temporary Mask Bylaw, library patrons must wear a mask while visiting the Library, and single-use, non-medical masks are available at the circulation desk. Children under the age of 2 are not required to wear a mask. Children under the age of 5 are not required to wear a mask if they cannot be persuaded to do so by their parents/caregivers. Library staff will be wearing masks in the main public area. Information on the proper use, cleaning, and disposal of non-medical masks can be found on the Alberta Government's website.
Hand sanitizer is available throughout the building, and all high-touch surface areas, such as keyboards, touchscreens, tabletops, countertops, etc., are sanitized on a regular basis. The public washrooms are open and are monitored for cleanliness on a regular basis as well.
Twenty-five library items can be borrowed at a time, and our regular loan periods and renewal options apply.
Our Pick-Up and Home Delivery Services are still available for those who might prefer more physical distance at this time, and we are happy to make recommendations.
All libraries in The Regional Automated Consortium (TRAC) have resumed lending, and patrons can once again request items listed in the TRAC catalogue. Items from other public and academic libraries in Alberta can also be requested through Relais, the province's new interlibrary resource sharing system.
The Library continues to offer some of our regular programs online such as storytimes for children as well as a virtual book club, music series, and yoga and meditation classes. Please visit our Events Calendar for more information on how to join us.
Banff Public Library is committed to providing a safe and welcoming space to our patrons and staff, and we will continue to monitor the COVID-19 updates from the Alberta Government and the Town of Banff to determine when it is appropriate to resume all of our regular services.
We thank you for your patience and understanding as we help to maintain the health and wellness of our community, and we look forward to seeing you at the Library again soon!
Please note that as the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, we may need to cancel/postpone our in-house and pick-up and home delivery services without notice.
